The Bedroom

11 Jun 2019

Hi there! It's finally time for the 5th and last part in the flat tour series, the bedroom or aka "my room". This is by far my favorite room of all as it is here I do most of my relaxing, like crocheting and watching Netflix while drinking tea, writing my blog posts and also doing some home work outs and yoga. Shin spends most of his down time in the living room, or "his room".

I love having a view by my desk, and to be surrounded by green both on the inside and the outside. I built the desk top myself by attaching a few wooden planks together and resting them on top of two trestles from Ikea. It's a bit wonky in some areas but it's exactly the size I wanted and it looks great. We actually transported the planks home by bus from the closest DIY shop, that was a quite interesting experience!

Along the wall opposite the window is our closet, our biggest DIY project in the flat. It is a mix of IKEA's Ivar shelf system and the Malm dressers, combined with some curtain rods and storage boxes. I'm quite proud of this creation as I planned it, painted it and put it together all by myself and the result is super practical and swallows a ton of stuff while also looking very nice. Did you know the Ivar system has been in IKEA's range for more than 50 years? It is such a versatile and smart product. When I was younger I didn't like the look of it but I have come to really appreciate how useful this product is and you can really let your creativity flow when you are planning the design.

Next to the door are my handmade organic crochet dolls. Some of these dolls are for sale so if you are interested in purchasing from me please head over to my Etsy shop. I made the white string shelfs myself too, so easy to make and perfect for displaying my dolls. I use Command 3M hooks and strips for all of my wall decorating needs. They don't leave any marks and are really strong.

My collection of Ty Beanie Boos. I know I am way too old for these but it's too hard to say no when they are looking up at you with those big glittering eyes... Behind the basket is one of my many Cath Kidston bags and accessories, another little addiction I suffer from...

Two of the bedroom walls are dedicated to portraits, one with some cool animal head shots and one with family pictures. The portrait in manga style is a portrait of me and was painted by a Spanish ex colleague in Tokyo.

These are probably my favorite plants in the whole flat. The bigger one is some kind of Calathea and the hanging one is a String of Hearts. They are both growing so fast!

Mr Moz and Namake-kun sitting on the bed. As Shin will tell you, if you are living with me you will have to accept that you will be sharing your space with another 15-20 critters....

And that is the complete tour of our little flat in Surbiton, UK. You can find part 1, The Hallway, here, part 2, The Kitchen, here, part 3, The Living Room, here, and part 4, The Bathroom, here. Or just click the Home category on the right.

We have really loved living here, the flat is lovely and we have really enjoyed Surbiton and the neighboring area of Kingston and other surrounding areas. But after 2 years we have decided to say goodbye. I'm really pleased I decided to write these blog posts as the flat has meant a lot to us. On to new adventures!

Please write me something nice (^∇^)
