Waitress - The Musical
03 May 2019
One of the great perks of living in London is the constant access to great musicals, both new and old. This particular one premiered on the West End in February this year so still very new. I went to see it in the beginning of March and I LOVED it. The two main reasons that convinced me to go and see it right away was that the lead character, Jenna, is played by acctress Katharine McPhee who I really enjoyed watching a few years ago in the short lived tv series Smash. Secondly, the music and lyrics is written by fantastic Sara Bareilles. I'm sure you remember her hit song from 2013, Brave.
The trailer above includes my favourite song from the show and is a testamnet that Katharine really can sing and hold those super long notes.

The cast is female lead, with main focus on waitresses Jenna (Mcphee), Becky and Dawn. They work at a typical american diner where Jenna specialises in baking her amazing pies. Very early on Jenna discovers that she is knocked up, or pregnant, and the father to be is no other than her good-for-nothing husband, who she married very young. The story goes from there and definantly takes a few twists and turns you don't expect.
I love everything with this show, the cast, the songs and the story. I have been listening to the soundtrack non-stop since I saw it (Shin is starting to get annoyed with me now). It is very funny too so when you are not enjoying a great tune you are lauging at the great comedy. I was very much taken by surprise when american actor and comedian Jack McBrayer (maybe you know him from american sitcom The Middle like me?) joined the show towards the end of the first act. His character was hilarious.
I will definitely go and see this again in the very near future. You can book tickets here!
