Box Hill Hike
25 Apr 2019

I hope everyone had a great Easter break! Here in London the weather was lovely all 4 days and I think Shin and I did the most of it. From Friday to Monday I walked more than 73 000 steps and I definitely did most of them on the Sunday, when Shin and I decided to do the Box Hill hike. This particular hike is 8 miles long, or almost 13 km, and took us little more than 4 hours to complete, including some breaks.

Box Hill is located within the national park of Surrey Hills - Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (yes that is the actual name, look it up if you don't believe me!) and we have been there 3 or 4 times before. We love the park becasue it is so big and beautiful, and it is very convenient to go there, we just have to take one bus right outside our flat and 30-40 minutes later we are there. Each time we got off the bus in a different location, depending on what trail we were planning to do that day.

It was a very warm day and we found these cows, plus another 8 or so, relaxing in the shade.

Chicken, duck and quail eggs for sale to bypassers, just put the money in the jar!

The view from the top of the hill is just amazing. Exactly what you imagine England should look like.

The National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty, or just the National Trust, is a charity organisation for environmental and heritage conservation in the UK.

Thanks to the National Trust and their voulenteers we were able to have a much needed ice cream break on top of Box Hill at the Box Hill Café. There is a car park here too, as most trails start from here. There are also bathrooms, a tap to refill your water bottle and a recycle station here.

Going down Box Hill again. Last time we were here I think we ascended on that other slope in the background.

Broadwoord Tower, built by Thomas Broadwood, in 1817. He and his family lived in that beautiful house, called Juniper Hall.

These stairs were probably the hardest part of the hike. It was very steep and very long.

All the way back down again, almost back to where we started. This church is called St. Michael and All Angels.

Before going back home we decided to try a new pub we passed at the start of the hike. Turns out that was a great decision. Their garden was very nice with a great view of the surrounding area. The perfect way to finish off a perfect day!

A bit pricier than most pubs but at least they offered quality food and a great view to make sure you got value for your money! A pub with a nice location or nice atmosphere usually fails miserably at the food, or the other way around, it is very rare that you get both!
